Dr. William W. Gibson, 93, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born on September 26, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to William W. and Edna Mae Gibson.




William graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn, New York and then served 4 years in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelors degree in agriculture and a masters and doctoral degree in Biology/Entomology.



Upon graduation and marrying his high school sweetheart, Linde Sigloch, he worked for several years in Mexico for The Rockefeller Foundation doing agricultural research. In 1962 he moved his family to Nacogdoches and retired from Stephen F. Austin State University after 49 years as a professor in the Biology/Entomology Department. One of his greatest pleasures in life was working with the students and faculty.

William constantly kept busy with one of his many interests and hobbies including history, military memorabilia, reading, the Fredonia Corn Club and the Nacogdoches Stamp Club.

Dr. Gibson is survived by his daughters, Becky Canty and husband, Stewart and Diana Brittain and husband, Gary; grandsons, David Canty and wife, Lauren, Stephen Canty and wife, Camille and Jeremy Brittain; granddaughter, Emily Brittain and husband, Kevin and great grandson, Charles Grayson Canty.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linde and son, Karl Gibson.



A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in William’s memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church at 903 North Street, Love Inc., Nacogdoches Animal Shelter/Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
