Kermet E. Clayton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas, following a brief illness. He was born in Nat, Texas, near Nacogdoches, on August 8, 1917, to Guy Houston Clayton and Ellen Moore Clayton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alton Jewell Clayton.
Mr. Clayton was a WWII veteran and served in the U.S. Army. A life-long basketball fan, he was a member of the 1937 State Championship Basketball Team. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1940 from Stephen F. Austin State University and his Master of Education degree in 1951, also from Stephen F. Austin State University. While in college, he lettered in basketball. He began his career in public school education as a basketball coach and teacher, first at Spurger, Texas, and then at Fannett, Texas. After moving to Conroe in 1954, he taught at Anderson Elementary School, then at Conroe High School, and was appointed principal of Ben Milam Elementary School in 1974. He retired in 1983 after serving the Conroe ISD for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Conroe First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Conroe Parks Board for 16 years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Shenkir Clayton of Conroe, daughter Kermeta �"Kay�" Clayton of Kingsville, daughter Karla Clayton Pollock of San Antonio, son David Houston Clayton of Montgomery, grandsons Jon Michael Clayton Pollock and James Patrick Pollock, both of Kingsville, one sister Gaymerle Tunnell Mack of Richardson, niece Janelle Nolde James of Richmond, Virginia, niece Jill Grail Tom of Baytown, niece Terry Stroud David of Amarillo, niece Theresa Beaver Mike of Tyler, and nephew Robbie Tunnell Roseanne of Richardson. Pallbearers will be Jon Pollock, James Patrick Pollock, Marvin Doyle, Robbie Tunnell, Tom Grail, and Jerry Pollock.
Honorary pallbearers are C.K. Ray, Dr. Pat Brown, Gilbert King, Bill Welschaunns, Dennis Bowman, and J.C. Edwards.

Ray Bradshaw, 87, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on May 23, 1925, in Nat, to Mattie B. Vanlandingham Bradshaw and Jim Bradshaw, and had been a resident of the Beaumont area for many years. Ray graduated from Cushing High School in 1943 and attended Stephen F. Austin State University from 1946 until 1948. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired Maintenance Supervisor for Unocal. Survivors include his son, Rodney Bradshaw and his wife, Susan, of Houston; daughter, Kim Dolan and her husband, Rodney, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Lauren Ellis and her husband, Jason; Gary Bradshaw and his wife, Amanda; Chris Dolan; and Stacy Dolan; great-grandchildren, Riley Ellis; Rex Ellis; and Beckett Bradshaw; sister, Irene Lester, of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife of sixty-two years, Bobby Bradshaw. A gathering of Mr. Bradshaw's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Broussard's. A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon at Nat Cemetery, Nat, Texas.
