Dwain Forsythe in charge of music. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches, Texas. Durward passed away Monday September 28, 2009, in Houston, Texas. He was born December 23, 1924, to parents Willis Monroe Roe and Velma M. Castleberry Bridwell. Durward and Robbie Boatman Bridwell were married April 16, 1954, and spent fifty-five years together. Robbie has lost the love of her life. Durward was employed with Borden Ice Cream Co. in Nacogdoches for 41 years, retiring as branch manager in 1990. His employees expressed that it was the best place they had ever worked, because they all loved him. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from August 7, 1943, until March 15, 1946. He was honorably discharged from Dothan, Alabama. Durward gave his life to the Lord in October 1939 and has been a devoted Christian and a long-standing member of University Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon July 28, 1968. He loved his church and spent many hours in dedicated service. University Baptist Church has lost a warrior! He loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing and hunting with his son, Ken. He fished on the coast with friend Dan Lay and spent time fishing in Arkansas with brother Lendon and nephew Charles. He enjoyed quail hunting in San Antonio as well as hunting and fishing locally with son Ken, brothers Lendon, Bennie, and brother-in-law Mac McMillan. In his last years he enjoyed traveling with wife, Robbie, to places he never dreamed he would ever be able to go. They especially loved "cruising" and spent many wonderful days going to ports near and far. Durward is survived by wife, Robbie, son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Leisha Bridwell of Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Emily Irvine of Rockwall Texas; and her father, Shawn Irvine; brothers, Lendon T. Bridwell and wife, Alma Jean, of Nacogdoches and Bennie Bridwell of Nacogdoches; and sister, Maxine Bridwell McMillan and husband, Malcolm, of Nacogdoches; and a host of nieces, nephews and aunts. Preceding Durward in death were his parents, Roe and Velma Bridwell, and beloved daughter, Jan Bridwell Irvine. Pallbearers will be Shawn Irvine, Charles and Andy Bridwell, James Weatherly, James Krauskopf, Len Jennings, Lee Broadwater and Matt Comer. Honorary pallbearers will include the deacons of University Baptist Church and the 42 club of Ashbury Court. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Durward Bridwell Memorial Fund at University Baptist Church, 2505 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.
