Mildred was born in Houston, Texas during a time when her father worked for the railroad.  However, the Great-Depression brought the family back home to Nacogdoches when she turned five years of age.  Family members resided between North Fredonia St., King St., Ferguson and Mound; but, Mildred and her parents and siblings lived on the farm east of town surrounded by wonderful neighbors, the Thacker and Driver families. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1941 and moved to Orange, Texas following the death of her father as part of the migration to help with the war effort; there, she began her work history.  She started as "one of the girls" on the lunch wagon at the Navy Base.  From 1948 to 1976 she worked in industrial/chemical analysis and research for Du Pont and Shell Development Companies, and in medical and radiation research for the Lovelace Foundation in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Scott and White Foundation in Temple, Texas.  At the age of 50 she returned to school and attended Richland College and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Since moving to Little Rock, Ar. In 1984, She and Dr. White were members of ST. James United Methodist Church.  She was an active member and one time President of UM Women's Organization; and an active member of Chapter I, PEO Sisterhood, and a regular volunteer at Camp Aldersgate for handicapped children.  Other joys were writing (she has been published), gardening and sewing; and spending time with her many friends.

Interment was held at Sunset Memorial Park-Section M,  Nacogdoches, under the direction of Cason Monk -Metcalf Funeral Home; Graveside service.  The family suggests Memorials to fund feeding those in need.
