Funeral services for James W. Dawson, 89, of Cushing will be at 3 p.m. Saturday August 6, 2011, at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing with the Rev. Chester Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at Cushing City Cemetery. James Willie Dawson Sr. went to be with the Lord Thursday August 4, 2011. He was born September 19, 1921, to Willie Otto and Jessie Heath Dawson in Trawick. He attended Cushing area schools, graduating in 1939. He attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture in 1942. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and traveled all over the world. After his military service, James taught agriculture to veterans for two years. He and Edith bought a dry goods store in Cushing and operated it for 10 years. For the next 36 years he worked as an ag-chemical salesman for Smith-Douglas/Borden. James also ran a timber and cattle business until he was 80 years old. James was actively involved in the Texas Farm Bureau as well as in his church. He served as a deacon in the Landmark Baptist Church for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hazel Liles; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Dawson.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Dawson of Cushing, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Kathleen Dawson of Cushing, Texas, and Jed and Debbie Dawson of Dallas, Texas; brother, Joe H. Dawson of Cushing, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Keifer Richards of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Laurie Dawson Roeseler, David Dawson, B.J. Dawson and James Texas Dawson; great-grandchildren, Katy Moses, Jay Moses and Amanda Moses; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be B.J. Dawson, Tex Dawson, David Dawson, Jay Moses, Fred McCormack and Bob Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Landmark Baptist Church. Dickie Allen Funeral Home, Cushing, Texas.
