Roy C. Anderson



 Roy C. Anderson, 86, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Jackson of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. The Rev. Bob Gwin of Camp Springs Baptist Church of Hemphill will give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Anderson was born March 28, 1919, in San Augustine, Texas to John H. and Edna V. Hutto Anderson. He was a decorated combat veteran who served our country during World War II in the United States Army 9th Infantry. Mr. Anderson was awarded three Purple Hearts, a Combat Infantry Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster. In 1999 he was awarded with a Medal of Appreciation for his service in Normandy, France. Last Memorial Day he went to the Washington Monument as an Honoree of the World War II Memorial Dedication. While he was there he had the additional honor of having breakfast with President George W. Bush at the White House. Mr. Anderson was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church having served as a Deacon, a member of Disabled American Veterans, and of the Purple Heart Veterans Association. He is preceded in death by his wife Lois M. Anderson. Survivors include his son, Philip Anderson and wife Janey of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughters, Doris Wheeler and husband Glen of Nacogdoches, Texas and Glenda Faries and husband Kenneth also of Nacogdoches, Texas; sister, Johnnye Martin of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Ricky Wheeler, Randy Wheeler, Debbie Taylor, Jennifer Faries, Monica Anderson and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Wheeler, Shawn Underburg, Courtney Underburg and Seth Taylor. Pallbearers are James McLain, Jerome Hale, Fritz Lewis, Bob Skeeters, Mike Worsham and Kenneth Boyett. Honorary Pallbearers are R.B. Haney, Wayne Williams, Roy Hall, Carl Krueger, N.F. "Red" Burt and the Bethel Baptist Church Deacons. Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches, Texas.
