OUR BELIEFS

A. W. Tozer once said the most important thing about a man is what he believes about God. Our God-beliefs will ultimately determine everything about us. At ICON, our statements of belief are not light-hearted sentiments – they are firm foundations of truth upon which we base our lives personally and together.

we believe… the Bible is God’s message to us.

so we… seek to understand and obey its truth.

we believe… there is one God who is three persons.

so we… yearn o know Him in all of His complexity and beauty.

we believe… Jesus is fully God and fully human.

so we… rejoice that Christ can be a bridge between us and God.

we believe… people, throughout history, have sinned against God.

so we… are deeply aware that we too are marked by willful disobedience.

we believe… God extends forgiveness to us through Christ.

so we… repent and rejoice in our forgiveness.

we believe… God offers freedom from sin’s grasp.

so we… live lives that are pleasing to God.

we believe… followers of Jesus must be empowered by the Holy Spirit.

so we… expect supernatural power in our daily lives.

we believe… that God can heal both the body and the heart.

so we… pray with faith and hope.

we believe… the mark of surrender to the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues.

so we… pray that God would grant us this supernatural gift.

we believe… in the Church.

so we… live in this community of faith, inviting others to join us.

we believe… God gives leaders as gifts to His Church.

so we… serve those whom the Lord entrusts to us.

we believe… God commands his followers to celebrate communion and baptism.

so we… practice these symbolic actions, reflecting on their significance.

we believe… Jesus will return to claim His Church.

so we… live in expectancy of his coming.

we believe… Christ will one day be seen clearly as King on earth.

so we… live as citizens of His Kingdom now.

we believe… God is the ultimate Judge.

so we… live knowing that our choices will echo through eternity.

we believe… we will live with God forever.

so we… live with hope regardless of our circumstances.

Pastor Denis and wife Cindy Land

Pastor Land and his wife, Cindy, grew up in Andrews, Texas where they were high school sweethearts, marrying in l977. They began their first pastorate in 1982 as lead pastors at First Assembly of God in Livingston, Texas. He served as President of the Livingston Area Ministers Fellowship and as Chairman for Polk County Campmeeting. In 1991, he was elected Presbyter of the Lufkin Section of the North Texas District Assemblies of God. In February 1992, the Lands became lead pastors of First Assembly of God in Nacogdoches, TX. Pastor Land continued to serve as Presbyter through 2012 when he was elected South East Region Executive Presbyter.

Cindy considers her highest calling to have been a wife and mother, enjoying her years of homeschooling their four sons at various times. She served as the Lufkin Section Women’s Ministries Rep from 2002 – 2012. She has served as the Women’s Ministries South East Region Rep since 2012. She plays the keyboard for our worship team and enjoys teaching the college Sunday School class.

The Lands have been privileged to travel to twelve countries on mission trips with the North Texas District Presbytery. While on a mission trip in 1999, God birthed the vision in Pastor Land for a children’s outreach in Nacogdoches. By partnering with children’s evangelist, Richard Konderla, our current ministry of Glory Gang was established. This ministry is now in its sixteenth year, reaching as many as 600 children on Sunday nights.

The Lands highly value family and have been blessed with four sons and four daughters-in-law: Brad & Kaylee, Nathan & Valerie, Blake & Katie, and Colton & Lacy. They are also the proud grandparents of Noah, McKenna, Ava, Mason, Elijah, and Ada. Pastor Land and Cindy have been enjoying their empty nest years by riding their Harley on the beautiful back roads of East Texas. They love Nacogdoches and believe the best days of the church are yet to come!
