r. Hugh Orton Davis was born August 30, 1899 in Nacogdoches, Texas the son of Hugh Barclay Davis and Martha Louise Orton. He graduated from Baylor University with an AB degree and from Harvard University with an M.A. and Ph.D. He served as a Highschool Principal, as a superintendent of schools and as associate professor of sociology at Baylor, before entering the military service as an analyst of a joint Army, Navy, and Air Intelligence Commission during World War II. During World War II, Lt. Col. Davis served with Military Intelligence for 2 years, dealt with military problems in Belgium, France, Holland, and Germany for a year and was later assigned to The Allied Control Council in Berlin. He was awarded the Bronze Star, was given a letter of commendation from Major General Ray E. Porter and a citation from Lt. General Lucius Clay. On his discharge from the Army in 1946 he accepted a position with the newly created committee, The Army-navy-air intelligence division in Washington D.C.. He accepted a position at Baylor College in 1948 teaching Sociology and government. in 1953 he accepted a position as Chairman of the Department of Social Sciences at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee Oklahoma. Besides being a member and elected Fellow of the American Sociological Association he worked with the Oklahoma Institute on Juvenile Problems for four years. He was a member of the Southwestern Social Science Association, American Association of University Professors, Harvard Alumnae Association. He was in the American Legion, The Rotary Club, and A Mason. Publications by Dr. Davis include a book, "America's Trade Equality Policy," published in 1942. Hugh married Martha Edwards on June 6, 1929 in FT. Worth Texas. The had one son Hugh Edward Davis. Hugh passed away March 1, 1969 in Friendswood, Texas
