On June 29, 2011, Lendon Bridwell went to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on August 22, 1926 to Willis Monroe Bridwell and Velma Castleberry Bridwell. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. He attended Stephen F. Austin Demonstration High School and Central Heights High School.
Lendon was employed by Borden Ice Cream Company for 39 years as a route salesman and Sales Manager. In addition to his work with Borden, he raised cattle and farmed on his property in the Central Heights community. He loved to hunt and fish and play forty-two with friends. After retiring, Lendon and his wife, Jean, traveled both abroad and in the United States.
Lendon was preceded in death by his father, Willis Monroe Bridwell; mother, Velma Castleberry Bridwell; and brother, Durward Willis Bridwell.
Lendon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma Jean Bridwell of Nacogdoches; sister, Maxine McMillan of Nacogdoches; brother, Bennie Bridwell of Nacogdoches; five children, Carolyn Neill Jennings and husband, Len, of Casper, Wyoming; Dr. Gail Weatherly and husband, Dr. Jim Weatherly, of Nacogdoches; Charles Bridwell and wife, Sharon, of Warren, Arkansas; Andrew Bridwell, and wife, Khristine, of the Philippines; Krista Ramsey and husband, Paul, of Splendora, Texas; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bridwell was a deacon and member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was devoted to his family, friends, community, and church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name are requested to be sent to the Texas Lung Injury Institute, 11937 US Hwy 271, Tyler, TX 75708-3154. Family visitation will be held from 5PM to 7PM Thursday, June 30, at Laird Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Friday, July 1, at Laird Funeral Home, 2116 South Street, Nacogdoches, Texas, with Rev. Brett Maisel and Rev. Tim Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery.
James Brewer, 77, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Holly Springs Cemetery, in Appleby, Texas, with the Rev. J.T. Trotter officiating. Mr. Brewer was born January 5, 1927, in Nacogdoches to James Madison and Gracie Wright Brewer. He was a member of the Church of Christ, president of the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Posse and a member of VFW Post 3893. He served our country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Jean Brewer Wallace in 1979. Survivors include his wife, Lavene Scroggins Brewer of Garrison, Texas; granddaughters, Shandra Buster of Garrison, Texas, and Deshannon Holliman of Nacogdoches, Texas; great-grandson, Tate Buster of Garrison; great-granddaughters, Tracy Buster and Stacy Buster both of Garrison, Texas, and Amanda Holliman and Kristin Holliman, both of Nacogdoches, Texas; sister, Martha Nell Brewer Haney of Garrison, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Johnny Garrett, Danny L. Garrett, James Allen Garrett, Michael L. Haney and Vernon Larry Garrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Hartt, Gene Sparks, Alan Stanaland, Cutter Wright, Thomas David Wright, A.W. Wright, Carl Wayne Wright and Larue Wright.
